This next Sunday, August 30, the CrossPoinTempe Church family will officially conclude our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting for our nation and its leaders. I want to thank the CPTC family for joining in this effort and especially thank those who were led to be a part of the effort by taking a specific day for prayer and fasting. I am not sure “who” the pastor was that planned this strategic 40-day event and now sees the “fast” end on a day when we are having a church-wide potluck!? May God bless his confusion! All is not lost, of course, as we will have a special time of prayer on Sunday as a part of our morning worship time, praying particularly for our nation and its leadership as we have done over the last few weeks.
Personally, this has been a rewarding time for me in both my taking a day on the schedule, and then taking the opportunity to communicate each day with the person scheduled for that day. It has been a conscious and pointed reminder for me to lift up our leaders and our nation on a regular basis. This was made even more special in that I knew others were praying at the same time for the same things.
So, what do we do at the end of 40 days? Do we stop praying and eat fried chicken? No! It is my hope that this time of heightened awareness of the needs will prompt us all to be more diligent in our prayers for those in positions of leadership and for the condition of our nation, that we will see a turn back to God as our only hope for survival.
R.A Torrey, known as a man who prayed diligently and taught others to pray, once said: Pray for great things, expect great things, work for great things, but above all, pray. Billy Graham, once asked about the reason for success in ministry, remarked that there were three key reasons: Prayer, Prayer, and Prayer! Let’s not stop expecting, working, or praying!
Join us on Sunday, at the altar and at the table!
